On April 21, at the media conference held during the Boao Forum for Asia, Zhou Xiaochuan, the vice chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia and the former president of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), warned that a new tariff war would be triggered if all parties continue to dispute over the ownership of digital tax.

He said, "don't fight over the issue of who the digital tax belongs to and how much digital tax would go into which pocket. If we want to fight, we have to face a new tariff war. This is not conducive to globalization, multilateralism, and a rule-based international order. "

When it comes to the launch of DC/EP (digital RMB), Zhou Xiaochuan said that DC/EP was currently used in the fields of small amount and retail field to benefit cross-border businessmen to communicate with each other, tourists to visit and meetings.

"At present, there are international voices saying that DC/EP will impact and damage the global financial system. In fact, it is not so serious." he said.
