11 Security Breaches in August Resulted in 60-Million-RMB loss

Abstract : Security loopholes of cryptocurrency exchange that occurred in August have led to a loss of over 60 million RMB statistically. Compared with July, fewer hacking incidents happened in August and the loss was smaller. However, there is an increasing tendency of Exchanges being hacked via security breaches.

Statistics from Beosin Eagle Eye reports 11 typical incidents concerning cyberattacks and loss of cryptocurrency, including the following ones.

1.Threeattacks against Dapp on Enterprise Operation System (EOS), through which hackers earned over 20,000 EOS.

2. A malicious website disguised itself as Electrum to phish. A user claimed to have lost 700 Bitcoins.

3. Cryptocurrency scams on Telegram never stop. A new victim has been scammed out of 201 ETHs on Telegram recently.

4. AWS, the Amazon server, has encountered some issues, which led to abnormal transaction number of various stock exchanges.

5.Biance, Bitstamp, CoinTiger and Citex have been reported with security breaches. The main problem with Biance and Bitstamp is a huge amount of user information leak in many countries. Cold wallets of the CoinTiger Exchange were hacked and 401,981,748PTTs were stolen. VEIL on the Citex Exchange was attacked by Zerocoin, leading to transaction suspension.

Thus, each Exchange should enhance their security system. Moreover, new issues have been noticed, and problems such as cryptocurrency scams, frauds and break downs of servers, have been on the rise.
